happy pants.

I think the last pair of purple pants I owned, aside from sweat pants, were corduroy, osh-kosh overalls (do overalls count as pants?)

I was 5.

I was hesitant to jump on the bright pant bandwagon, but I figured that I was fabulous then and I am fabulous now, and I am ready to re-express my love of purple, starting with the most exciting purchase of the week (month, year, lifetime..):

from j.crew - they read a little bit pink in this picture, but, I assure you, they are much more fuchsia / purple in real life

I love them. So much. Had I purchased these beauts at age 5, I probably would have worn them literally for a week straight (to bed, to school, to play dates, on the jungle-gym..) I am quite certain I wouldn’t have allowed them to be removed from my body.

Thankfully, I’ve got a better understanding of cleanliness these days, but if I had 5 pairs.. you never know what could happen. Better yet, the same pair of pants in the full purple spectrum.

Happy Weekend!

PS – some other purple inspiration from the week:

florence in the summer via {this is glamorous}

– a stunning purple room as seen featured on Architectural Digest

– the return of royal purple

orchids come in so many lovely shades of purple.. if only I didn’t kill plants

Downton Dreaming

“I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.” – Lady Grantham, the Dowager Countess

I couldn't agree more, Lady Grantham.

Downton Abbey. The show that in its very enunciation forces the average American to defer to our British predecessors, and we do so happily!

Having raced through the first two seasons of Downton Abbey in about a week and a half last month, I am feeling the aches of withdrawal. I find myself daydreaming of lounging around the parlor, taking tea with the neighbors, dressing up for dinner every night, and having a personal servant. I know that sounds awfully selfish, lazy and downright un-American, but it is just part of who I am – take it or leave it!

If I were hosting dinner at Downton tonight, (and had access to their funds..) I would have a hard time choosing an outfit, but right now this look is coming to mind:

necklace. dress. earrings. shoes.

Cheers!

may the odds be ever in your favor.

I hit the theaters for a Saturday matinee showing of the Hunger Games this weekend. I was a mix of teenage Twilight obsession-excitement and first date nerves all day; I had high expectations for this film. I had been hopping around the house all morning telling everyone in earshot, “May the odds be ever in your favor”.

(I’ve got the maturity of a tween at times, I’m well aware.)

For those of you who haven’t read the Hunger Games or seen the movie I won’t spoil it; however, I highly recommend the book. A little romance amidst violence, and a battle of wits between those in power and the people, really everyone is gaga over this story, myself (and K) included.

I was obsessed with the book. I read the entire series (three books) in two weeks and read Mocking Jay (the final book of the series) in one Saturday. Seriously friends, I only got out of bed that Saturday to use the facilities and grab a snack. I couldn’t put the books down, but I was not as impressed with the movie.

The movie was violent, which I knew it was going to be. You can’t take a book where the majority of the plot takes place in an arena where children are killing children, and make the film all roses and butterflies. My dad, who never read the books, went to the movie with us. He kept saying it was such a dumb and disturbing movie. He was really raining on our “we love everything about the Hunger Games” parade. I tried to tell him, at least these kids were forced into this situation, you grew up with Lord of the Flies and hello, Father, those kids chose to kill each other, so back off! Still, he’s not a fan.

All in all, the movie left me disappointed. The books left me wanting more, I had more questions and wanted more to read. I left the movie saying, “was that it?”

For those of you who watched the movie or read the book, what are your thoughts?

fun in the bathroom!

A few weeks ago, I mentioned what a fun time I had at Dogfish Head Brewery. What I didn’t mention, is that I made a wonderful new friend during my short visit.

His name is Beeq.

(Pronounced the way Donald Duck might pronounce the word “Beak”.)

This fine fellow, a local enthusiast of DFH, is somewhat of an artist.

He walks around the pub, and asks people to write a sonnet with him – every other word.  Needless to say, my cousin and I enjoyed this game immensely. Even more enjoyable were the darling little pictures that he composed the sonnets on. As my cousin aptly pointed out, they make great bathroom art!

"Quintessential"

I randomly came upon these frames on clearance at Target for a mere $2-ish each, I cut down the pictures to fit in the frame and voila! Bathroom art! Our dreary little bathroom is now a little happier!

some title that I can't quite make out..

Have a lucky weekend,

Cheers!

One day, in February, I was sad about my self-inflicted spending freeze and the fact that my Australian dress  wouldn’t make it across the ocean in time for the ball, when my tractor driving, cow milking boyfriend told me that he couldn’t believe he was going to something called a ball.

Rebuttal: “I can’t believe I talk about manure, tractors repairs, or cows calving on a daily basis.”

I win. Manure trumps formal black tie event, He’s got the better deal.

Stylish baby cow.

In Michael Kors.
