Downton Dreaming

“I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.” – Lady Grantham, the Dowager Countess

I couldn't agree more, Lady Grantham.

Downton Abbey. The show that in its very enunciation forces the average American to defer to our British predecessors, and we do so happily!

Having raced through the first two seasons of Downton Abbey in about a week and a half last month, I am feeling the aches of withdrawal. I find myself daydreaming of lounging around the parlor, taking tea with the neighbors, dressing up for dinner every night, and having a personal servant. I know that sounds awfully selfish, lazy and downright un-American, but it is just part of who I am – take it or leave it!

If I were hosting dinner at Downton tonight, (and had access to their funds..) I would have a hard time choosing an outfit, but right now this look is coming to mind:

necklace. dress. earrings. shoes.

Cheers!

dreaming of sunshine, warm weather, salty air…

Maybe it’s just that it is my birthday month. Or maybe, it’s because I live in Michigan – aka the bitter north. (Yes, I understand that there are MANY colder places, but it is also true that western MI is known for it’s sun-less winters…) Or it could have something to do my parents going to Florida without me…they didn’t invite me or even tell me they were going until their bags were packed! Whatever the reason, every year at about this time, all that I can think about is sun, warmth, and ocean.

My roommate's picture, from a trip she, E & I went on our senior year of college.

However, trips to Puerto Rico, and Spring Break in general are not a part of my current “real world”, sadly. Instead, I’ll just dream of lounging about in a swim suit, sipping on a frozen beverage and reading.

cover up. shoes. bangles. suit. sunnies.

Doesn’t that cover up make you want to just hop on a plane now?! I can almost taste the salt water, and feel the heat of the sun on my face…

What we actually wore sight-seeing in San Juan...in case you were wondering 😉

Cheers!

grown-up prom

March 10th is the Hospital’s ball. (Did you know I do Marketing for a Health System? Well, I do.)  The ball is prom for big people, and with my admitted shopping problem, I am pumped to have yet another reason for a new dress. I have a vision in my head of a black lace dress and nude pumps, classic and sexy. Between Piperlime, and my new favorite boutique from Australia, Esther, I thought I would be guaranteed to find the perfect ensemble, but I have been on a spending freeze for the month of February, and it takes 3 weeks to get something from Australia. Boo, because I really want one of these dresses!

So, Tomorrow, March 1, when my self-inflicted spending freeze  is lifted, I will begin shopping for dresses from a much less exotic location. Sad face.

Another day older, another day classier.

The Trench Coat. A fashion classic for innumerable years. For some time now, I have been wanting to introduce one into my wardrobe. An impending birthday, an online President’s Day weekend sale, a bout of sickness that had me feeling gross, and a visit from E (somehow, it is always easier for me to buy things when she is around…), were the perfect storm of events to induce such a purchase.

to: me, love: me! happy birthday!!

j.crew. of course.

All I need now is some spring weather!

Here’s to timeless fashion,

Cheers!

dreaming of ballet

Ballerinas: they are beautiful, graceful, and skinny. Or at least that’s what we thought until we saw Black Swan. After that horrific experience, our minds more quickly jumped to disturbed, frightful, and eerie when we heard the word “ballerina”. But, between E’s much more pleasant experience with seeing The Nutcracker last month, and K’s vested interest in ballet companies in the greater Michigan area… let’s just say we’ve got ballet on the mind over here at three.deep, for various reasons. So, we’ve put together a ballerina inspired dream – an outfit full of easy, comfortable, grace.
Cheers!
